දැල්ලා / Cuttle fish / Kanawa
Cuttlefish are marine mollusks belonging to the class Cephalopoda, closely related to squid and octopuses. They possess a unique internal shell called the cuttlebone, which helps with buoyancy control. Large cuttlefish can reach lengths of up to 50 cm (20 inches) and are known for their soft, tender flesh and mildly sweet flavor. They have a distinct, broad body with eight arms and two long tentacles used for catching prey. Cuttlefish are prized in various cuisines, especially Mediterranean and Asian dishes, where they are often grilled, sautéed, or used in seafood stews. They also possess the ability to change colors for camouflage, thanks to specialized cells called chromatophores.
