Anchovies are small, silvery, schooling fish that are commonly found in both saltwater and freshwater environments around the world. Typically measuring around 10-15 cm (4-6 inches) in length, they have a slender, elongated body with a slightly forked tail. Anchovies are known for their bold, salty flavor, making them popular in various global cuisines, particularly Mediterranean and Southeast Asian dishes. They are often preserved in salt, oil, or vinegar and used in sauces, salads, pizzas, and as flavor enhancers. Anchovies are also a key ingredient in famous dishes like Caesar salad dressing and Worcestershire sauce. Despite their small size, they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, and protein.
